Jack Verne LaBounty, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel, passed away Feb. 3, 2010, in Plano, Texas.

He was born June 21, 1917 in Bloomington to Perry and Mae LaBounty. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

He joined the Illinois Army National Guard. He was a truck company commander in the Red Ball Express, supporting Patton's tank forces in World War II. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army for 28 years. His tours of duty included Alaska, Virginia, Germany, Korea and Fort Meade, Md., where he retired in 1965, after serving as post transportation officer.
