ALTONA - Lester "Rufus" G. Anderson, 85, Altona, died at 5:15 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, at Seminary Manor in Galesburg.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Pastor Russell Collister will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Red Oak Cemetery in rural Cambridge. Memorials may be directed to the Henry County Humane Society.

Lester was born July 3, 1924, in Galesburg, the son of Rufus and Florence (Henderson) Anderson. He married Joan Dalton on Aug. 1, 1947, in Galesburg. She preceded him in death Feb. 24, 1999. Survivors include three sons, Larry Anderson of Altona, Mark (Ruby) Anderson of Woodhull and Chris Anderson of Galva; a daughter, Theresa Edgell of Galva; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jim; a son; and a granddaughter.

He graduated from Galva High School in 1943. He farmed for many years and also had worked at Nelson Farm Service in Cambridge. He was of Methodist faith. His hobbies included square dancing, fishing, hunting and gardening. He was proud of his Swedish heritage.
