Her son, Lewis, grew up to become a Baptist minister, like his father. He married Mary Ennis. They had no children. He died in middle age of tuberculosis, after being infirm for many years. He and his wife enjoyed working in missions in the American West, but his poor health kept him from doing all that he wanted to do. After his death, his wife published a collection of his sermons and wrote a short biography of his life, including the deep sorrow he felt when he lost his mother when he was only 4 and his little sister, Mary, when he was about 11. His wife's writing showed the reverence she had for him and his work.
