Josephine Gertrude Jacobson
(April 19, 1907 - July 8, 2008)

Memorial Services for Josephine Jacobson will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Ave Maria Catholic Church in Wheaton. Fr. Joe Vandeberg will officiate.

Josephine passed away on Tuesday, July 8th, 2008 at the Grace Home in Graceville, Minnesota. She was 101 years old.

Josephine was born in Barry, Minnesota on April 10, 1907, the daughter of Balthasar and Josephine (Voss) Heck. She went to elementary school in Barry and graduated from high school in Beardsley, Minnesota and then went on to graduate from Moorhead State College.

Josephine married Ingemar Jacobson on September 21, 1939. She taught grades 4 and 6 in Corona, South Dakota, Wheaton, Beardsley and Browns Valley, Minnesota schools for a number of years and for the last 10 years, before her retirement, served as Elementary Librarian at the Pearson Elementary School in Wheaton, Minnesota. Wheaton was Josephine's "home-town". She loved her home and yard, especially caring for her flower and vegetable gardens. Even though she never had any children of her own, she considered children at school to be "her kids", along with the neighborhood kids that would help her weed her garden. "I love children" she would state. Josephine was an active member of the Ave Maria Catholic Church in Wheaton, and a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. One of her favorite hobbies was watching the Minnesota Timberwolves basketball games.

Josephine is survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Ingemar, two brothers and 6 sisters.

It was Josephine's wish that at the time of her death, her body would be donated to the University of Minnesota for medical and science research. Following the Universities studies, Josephine will be buried at Wildwood Cemetery in Wheaton, next to her husband.

Ranney Funeral Home in Wheaton, MN was in charge of arrangements.
