Forrest N. Whisman
Funeral was Tuesday at Caldwell's Colonial Mortuary for Forrest Norman Whisman, 1321 SE Morrison St., a retired bridge builder who died at his home Saturday. He was 80.
Born Dec. 26, 1883, in Lane Creek, Lane County, Mr. Whisman had lived in Portland 47 years.
Prior to his retirement in 1956 he was employed by the Gilpin Construction Co. and worked as a high climber on various Oregon and Portland bridges. He helped build the St. Johns, Steel, Broadway and Morrison bridges and also worked on the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
He was a charter member of Local No. 2416, Pile Drivers, Bridge and Wharf Carpenters and Riggers Union.
He is survived by the widow, Lena G., two sons, Ross F. and George E., a daughter, Mrs. Beatrice Wandel, and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of Portland.
Burial was in Rose City Cemetery.
