Captured at Atlanta, Ga., July 22, 1864, Hiram Bland of GA died of pneumonia as a POW in Chase Camp Ohio.

His body was stolen by a Dr. Flowers and given to the Medical College of Cleveland, Ohio. According to a newsletter article written Dec 29, 2004, the incident was well documented by newspaper articles written in 1864 in the area of Camp Chase, Ohio.

Bland left a wife and 5 children to mourn his death.

Through microfilm from National Archives and Records Administration one would be able to find out who exactly was dug up and who was re-interred. The five soldiers whose bodies were sold to the medical college dissection room in Cleveland were:
--Hiram BLAND of Georgia

--A. J. Hensleyof Virginia

--John W. Lester of Tennessee

-- Jonathan Lindley of Georgia

Thomas STEPHENS of Louisiana

memorial was also placed in Upper Mill Creek Cemetery in Bulloch Co, GA.
