Lieut. Samuel Fuller,3 born ca. 1638 in England as the oldest son of Dr. Matthew Fuller,2 (Edward,1 of the Mayflower).[1] Whereas Lieut. Samuel's grandfather Edward Fuller,1 arrived in 1620 aboard the Mayflower, Lieut. Samuel and his father did not arrive in New England until circa Oct. 1640. In his will and at his death, Lieut. Samuel's age is not stated to assist in a realistic estimate of when he was born.

Samuel d. testate having prepared his will before being engaged as Lieut. of militia forces from the Plymouth Colony, under Capt. Michael Pierce of Scituate, Mass., in the King Philip's War against the Narragansett Indians. Samuel and the major portion of Capt. Pierce's force were killed in action on Sunday, 26 March 1676 and buried in a mass grave at the location of their ambush at present-day Central Falls, Providence County, Rhode Island just west of the Blackstone River.

By circa 1660 Lieut. Samuel m. Mary, whose maiden name remains unknown. She was living 7 Aug. 1696 at Barnstable as her husband's widow, but when and where she died is not found in any known vital, deed, church or probate record. Eight children of the family.

[1] Numerous sources on the internet claim Samuel was b. "11 Feb. 1637" in England, this date being a date in the old pre-1751 English Julian calendar, in which, on its face, is historically written in the post-January 1, 1751 modern English Gregorian calendar as 11 Feb. 1637/8. On 11 Feb. 1637/8, Samuel's 1st cousin Samuel (Samuel, Edward) was baptized at Scituate, Mass. The date of the known baptism in New England of Samuel's cousin has been erroneously applied as the basis of the "date of birth" for Samuel (Matthew, Edward) in England.
