Cornelia was born in the tiny country community Westerdijkshorn, about a mile northwest of the village Bedum, the seat of the municipality with the same name, in the northwestern central part of the Dutch northeastern province Groningen. Her parents are farmer Harmannus Klugkist (22 y) and Pieterke van Maar.

Cornelia married on 11 May 1882 in the seat of her birth municipality, Bedum to the also 20 years aged farmer Pieter Alberda. From March 1883 until April 1889 they had four children in Bedum: Harmannus, Willem Menze, Pieterke and Hendrik Alberda. Harmannus died in September 1889 in Bedum at the age of six years.

On 4 May 1893 Cornelia arrived with her husband and farmer Pieter Alberda and their children Willem, Pieterke and Hendrik on the SS Spaarndam at New York. Their destination is Bozeman, the seat of Gallatin County, in the southwestern part of Montana.

In 1910 Cornelia lived with her husband Peter Alberda and their children, Lizzie (= Liefke) and Henry, in Schooldistrict 34 of Gallatin County. In 1920 Peter and Cornelia lived in Gallatin County too, in 1930 in the Holland settlement, later on called Amsterdam-Chuchill.
