Andrea (anglicied to ANDREW) came to the US on the SS Trojan Prince, through Ellis Island, in 1902. He was born Andrea Antonio Francesco Guiseppe Spada, in Marcedusa, Catanzaro, Calabria, Italy in March 1884 to Eugenio and Vincenza Spada (nee Spada). Soon after his arrival he began selling produce in New York, and between 1913 and 1930 he and (in the early years) his brother Domenico ran Andrew Spada & Co a produce business in New York. During this time he and his family lived in New York and Lakeland, FL, and the company bought, transported and sold oranges and watermelon from the south to markets in New York. By 1945, he established Spada Fruit sales in Clearwater, FL., and later Spada Fruit Packing Plant in Thononasassa, FL.
