Mrs. Lillian Dennis Brayton, widow of Former Town Clerk William F. Brayton, received more than 40 relatives and friends at an open house held Sunday by her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Herman F. Holman of East Main Road, in honor of her 87th birthday anniversary. Mrs. Brayton was given 10 floral bouquets, many greeting cards, and gifts.
Here for the anniversary were her daughter, Mrs. Frederick A. Lawton of Westfield, Mass., a granddaughter, Mrs. Leonard Terwilliger of Glastonberry, Conn., and Mr. Terwilliger. Mrs. Ernest Cross of Kingsport, Tenn., another daughter, was unable to be present but she will be reunit with her mother Aug. 15 when she will arrive for the 40th reunion of her Rogers High School class.
Mrs. Brayton was born Aug. 2, 1866, in the historic Dennis homestead on East Main Road, one of Lafayette's headquarters during the Revolutionary War. She was the only child of George N. and Louisa Monroe Dennis.
She was at one time an active member of Col. William Barton Chapter, DAR, and of the Ladies Society of St. Paul's Methodist Church. Her husband served as town clerk for six years, and her grandmother, Mrs. Abigail Dennis, was minister of the Friends Meeting on Quaker Hill.
