Obituary - The Perth Courier - Feb. 8, 1935 -
From the effects of two paralytic strokes, Mrs. Archie Coutts passed away at her home, Rideau Ferry, North Elmsley, on Saturday morning, February 2nd, at the age of sixty-nine years and nine months. Deceased whose maiden name was Jennie C. Beveridge, was born in North Elmsley, a daughter of the late John Beveridge and Jennie McLaren, whose families originated in Scotland, and deceased would have been married fifty years on April 22 next. She was of a kind and cheerful disposition, a loving wife and mother, and deeply devoted to her home and family. She was a life-long member of Bethel United Church, and when in her health was an active member of the Ladies Aid and Women's Missionary Society, and a life member of the latter. Mr. and Mrs. Coutts were married in Perth by the late Rev. Dr. Malcolm Macgillivray, of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Miss Agnes Beveridge was the bridesmaid and Mr. David McLean the groomsman. Deceased is survived by her husband, one daughter, Mrs. John (Helen) Wills of Rideau Ferry, and five sons, A. Ernest, of Windsor; Harold J. of Kingston; James E. and George A. of North Elmsley, and Ross W. at home. Two sisters, Misses Sadie and Etta also survive. A daughter, Emily predeceased her on February 5th, 1915, and a sister, Agnes, also predeceased her. The funeral was held on Monday to Rideau Ferry Cemetery, services being conducted by Rev. R. B. Harrison, pastor of Bethel United Church. During the service at the home, her favorite hymns, "Safe In The Arms Of Jesus" and "Rock Of Ages" were sung, and the choir rendered "Jesus Savior, Pilot Me". The pallbearers were Messrs. John King, Archie B. McLean, John Miller, James E. McLean, Geo. Matthews, and George McKay. Relatives from Windsor, Brockville, Perth, Smiths Falls, Bathurst and Drummond attended the funeral. Floral tributes were received from the following: Pillow, husband and family; Sprays, grandchildren, Mrs. Tena Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. John F. McLean, the Hall family, Mrs. Mary Jewett; Wreaths, from Mrs. Peter Coutts and Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Joynt and family.
