Deceased Name: HAROLD HANSEN, 83, A RETIRED MARINE OFFICER

Brig. Gen. Harold D. Hansen, 83, who served as assistant quartermaster general of the Marine Corps in Washington until his retirement in 1960, died yesterday at home in Philadelphia.

Born in Nebraska, he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1927, and began his career in Philadelphia the same year at the Basic School for Marine Corps officers at the Philadephia Navy Yard.

He was awarded the Bronze Star in 1944 for his service in the South Pacific theater, where he was Assistant chief of staff with the Aircraft, Fleet Marine Force, based in the South Pacific.

He commanded Marine Corps supply activity in Philadelphia from 1955 to 1959.

He started as assistant quartermaster general in Washington in 1959, and retired the following year.

In Philadelphia, he was active with the Crime Prevention Association, and the Boy Scouts.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Keys Hansen of Philadelphia; daughters, Constance Weidner and Dale Subkow, and son, Harold Hansen Jr.

Memorial services were to be scheduled later.

Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.
