Ansel Daniel Jones was the son of Lewis Bragg Washington Jones and Miss Hagar (Most likely Betsy Hagar). His father was a gunsmith and he worked at that trade until he could make a gun which would shoot accurately. Later he went to work for Samuel W. Newman and learned the tanning & saddlery trade as well.
Ansel Daniel Jones married Elizabeth Katherine Newman, daughter of Samuel Walter Newman and Lucinda Bell on 30 Sept 1847. In the 1850 census they are found living next to Samuel Newman.
Later he became a land developer in the Kirksville area of Madison county.
They had twelve children, two dying as infants.
Luketta Bragg Jones married Amos Richardson
Humphrey Tunstall Jones never married
Samuel Louis (Lewis?) Jones married Rosalie Castlen & Alice Anderson
David Newman Jones never married
Baby Jones died as infant
Anna Dennie Jones married Andrew Castlen
Walter Jones married Nannie Rigsby & Nola Gibson
Mollie Farris Jones William Tevis
Lucinda Katherine Jones never married
Ruth Ella Jones married W. Walker Lyon
Ansel Daniel Jones, Jr. married Martha Hendren and
John William Jones died as infant.

Died -- At his home in Kirksville, Ky., at 10 o'clock, A.M., April 14, 1879, Ansil (should be Ansel) D. Jones, aged 52 years 7 months and 8 days.

He was born in Irvine, Estill county, and married Elizabeth Newman, daughter of Samuel Newman, who was for many years an honorable and substantial citizen of that county. The deceased has resided for twenty years in Kirksville. For perhaps twenty-five years he has struggled with ill health, having inherited a frail constitution. At no time during that period has he passed a day in freedom from pain; yet by industry and prudence he has succeeded in business, and provided for a large and dependent family. He was buried with the usual honors of his Masonic brethren, who appointed the under signed committee to prepare the following notice of his death.

WHEREAS In a dispensation of the Providence of God it hath pleased him to remove from among us Bro. D.D. Jones. (Should be A.D.Jones)
Resolved, That in his death we realize that this community has lost an honorable, conscientious citizen, the church a faithful and humble member, his neighbors a kind, benevolent, candid friend, the lodge an esteemed Brother. All have been bereaved of one whom we implicitly trusted in all the relations of life.
2. That we extend our deepest sympathy to the bereaved family, urging them to imitate his many virtues, and commending them to the cure of Him who is the friend of the widow and fatherless.
