MRS. MATTINGLY DIES AT CALVARY - APOPLEXY BRINGS SUDDEN DEATH TO WELL KNOWN WOMAN
Mrs. Thomas B. Mattingly, a well known resident of the Calvary community died last Saturday morning at 2:20 o'clock at the home of her son, John R. Miles, near Calvary. She was 68 years of age and death was due to apoplexy. She became ill about midnight and called members of the family, but before they could summon medical aid she had passed away. Although she had not been well recently, she was in her usual health upon retiring Friday night, and her death came as a shock to her relatives and friends. Mrs. Mattingly was twice married, her first husband being John Miles, who died forty-two years ago. About thirty-five years ago she was united in marriage to Thomas B. Mattingly, who preceded her to the grave six years ago. Since the death of Mr. Mattingly, she had spent most of her time with her son. Before her marriage she was Miss Lillian Carrico, daughter of the late Frank Carrico of Washington County, and was born October 11, 1866. She was a member of the Catholic church and was faithful to its teachings. Her friends were numbered by her acquaintances. Surviving Mrs. Mattingly are two children, John R. Miles of Calvary and Sister Rose Xavier of SS. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital, Louisville, and seven step-children, Mrs. Edna Perkins of Lexington, Mrs. Joe S. Thomas, Mrs. M. T. Thomas, Mrs. Lewis Raley, Ben Mattingly, Spalding Mattingly and Herbert Mattingly, all of this county. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Teresa Perkins of Illinois and four brothers, John and Dick Carrico of this county and T. and Billy Carrico of Washington County. A sister, Mrs. Ida Hickerson, died a number of years ago. Funeral services were conducted at Holy Mary's Church at Calvary Monday morning at 9:00 o'clock by the Rev. J. P. Welsh, and burial was in the church cemetery. The pallbearers were: Pius Thomas, Losh Thomas, Sherman Raley, Joe Raley, Richard Miles and Aloysius Mattingly.
