DEATH OF DR. EDWARD PREUSS
The funeral of Dr. Edward Preuss, the veteran editor-in-chief of the Amerika, who died Sunday morning, will be held at 8 o'clock Tuesday morning from the family residence, 3346 Oregon avenue.
Dr. Pruess was born at Koenigsburg, Prussia. His father, Dr. A. E. Pruess, was director of a large institution of learning. The son was graduated from the Koenigsberg gymnasium and entered the university there, from where he was graduated in 1853. He was director of the Fredrich Wilhelm Gymnasium in Berlin until 1868, when he resigned, following his publication of a book against the Catholic doctrine of the Immaculate conception. After serving a number of years as professor of theology in a Lutheran seminary, Dr. Pruess resigned and entered the Catholic church. In 1872, he became a member of the Amerika staff and soon afterward its editor. He held this position until April, 1902, when poor health compelled him to give up the work.
He is survived by a widow, seven sons and one daughter, as follows: Arthur Pruess, publisher and editor of the Review and acting editor-in-chief of the Amerika; Rev. Joseph Pruess, rector at Bloomsdale, MO; Mrs. Maria Peoples, Anthony, Louis, James, Henry and Frank Preuss.
