Freda C. Prather, 68, of Owenton, passed away Monday, January 11th at the St. Elizabeth Hospice Care Center in Edgewood. Born January 22, 1941, in the Hesler community of Owen County, she was the daughter of the late William David “Bill” Cook and Dorothy Shelton Cook Smith. She was also preceded in death by her half brother Bobby Wainscott. Freda was a 1959 graduate of Owen County High School. She retired as the Owenton City Clerk, was a KY Colonel and a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where she was active with the VBS program. She was also a former Rebekah, former Pleasant Home Homemaker; Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout and Boy Scout director. She is survived by her husband Roy Prather, Jr.; her step-father, L.D. “Pete” Smith both of Owenton; her son, David (Heather) Prather of Perryville; her daughter Nancy (Michael) Boisseau of Owenton and several grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by McDonald & New Funeral Homes. Family will receive friends at the Seminary Street location, Thursday, January 14th, from 4-8pm. Funeral services will be held at 2pm Friday with Bro. Dale Adkins and Bro. Craig Howard officiating. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
