Harrison was born to Jacob England and Anna Vanscoy in 1837 or 1838 in Ross County, OH. He was a cooper by trade and unmarried at the time of his enlistment. He mustered in on 2/25/1862. His regiment served primarily in WV and VA, and was one of the regiments taken captive by the Confederates at Bolivar Heights, WV on 9/15/1862. Harrison was part of the prisoner of war exchange that transferred "paroled" Union soldiers to the Union's Camp Douglas in Chicago, IL, where they faced great hardship and disease. He was mustered out on 11/10/1862, but was too ill to return to his home. Harrison died of disease on 11/28/1862 and buried in Rosehill Cemetery.
