Staff Sergeant William Oxby served in the 322 Bombardment Squadron,91st Bombardment Group,United States Army Air Forces during World War II.On November 2,1944,he was the ball turret gunner on a B-17,"Man O War II" on a mission to bomb a synthetic oil plant at Merseburg,Germany.His Flying Fortress was hit by enemy fire and was shot down.Staff Sergeant Oxby was killed during this action.
