Violette Mae Johnson, 84, of Champaign died at 9:55 p.m. Sunday (July 13, 2003) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Road, Urbana. The Rev. Philip McGarvey will officiate. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery, Urbana. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Johnson was born Oct. 27, 1918, in Frankfort, a daughter of Ellis and Goldie Myrtle Wright Palmer. She married Zelmer B. Johnson on Aug. 17, 1940, in Russell Springs, Ky. He died March 13, 1985. Survivors include two sons, James Hugh Johnson of Champaign and Barry Lee Johnson of Urbana; a brother, Fairl Palmer of Lakeland, Fla.; a sister, Celie Treadway of Danville; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren. She was preceed in death by two brothers and six sisters. Mrs. Johnson was employed at the University of Illinois University Housing.
