Chester served as a Second Lieutenant & Co-Pilot on B-24J "Hare Power" #44-40117, 852nd Bomber Squadron, 491st Bomber Group, 8th Air Force, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Holly Oak, New Castle County, Delaware prior to the war.

B-24J #44-40117 took off, with a crew of 9, from North Pickenham, England on a bombing mission over Misburg, Germany. Near the target they were attacked by German Aircraft and shot down and crashed near Rehren, Germany during the war. 7 of the crew perished and 2 survived.

Chester was "Killed In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

Chester was first interred in the Rehren Cemetery, Rehren, Germany. He was, after the war, repatriated here.
