Son of George William Adkins and Jennnie Rankins Adams of Maple Street, Holly Oak, Delaware.

Chester served as a 2nd Lieutenant on B-24J "Hare Power" (#44-40117), 852nd Bomber Squadron, 491st Bomber Group, 8th Air Force, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

His headstone, in error, shows the 854th Bomber Squadron when it was actually the 852nd Bomber Squadron.

Chester was "Killed In Action" with the rest of his crew during the war when his plane was shot down over Germany and he was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
