The subject of this sketch died at his home in Marshall, of malarial fever, on Thursday night last, surrounded by his loving wife, aged mother, and a host of other relatives and friends. The deceased was born in Coshocton county, Ohio, in 1846, and was therefore thirty-four years old, at the time of his death.

He moved to this county, with his parents in 1853, and by hard work and considerable energy, schooled himself, and passed a very creditable examination, at Ann Arbor University, in 1872, and was admitted to the bar. In 1874, he formed a law partnership with S. S. Whitehead, under the firm name of Whitehead & Jones, and they remained together up to the time of his death. June 22, 1879 he was united in marriage to Alice Watson, Rev. Geo. F. Davis, performing the ceremony. He was taken sick early in March, but was not considered dangerous until a couple of weeks before his death when his symptoms took such a turn that his physician abandoned all hopes of his recovery.

Mr. Jones was an exemplary young man, steady, sober and industrious, and leaves a host of friends to mourn for him.
