B.D. Kimbrough, of Muscle Shoals, Ala., born Oct. 19, 1924, to Alabama and Charlie David Kimbrough, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010. He led an extremely fulfilling life, first and foremost as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Papa/Grand Pa. B.D. was preceded in death by his wife and best friend of 63 years, Margaret Mary McCaig Kimbrough. He is survived by his beloved sons, Larry (Belinda), Jerry (Pam) and Danny (Lynn); seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many cherished family members and friends. He enjoyed life and was always interested in other people. His dedication to his local community included the privilege of serving as mayor and commissioner of Muscle Shoals for three terms, Colbert County Commission from 1972 until 1976 and was actively involved in local politics for many years. You could never go to dinner, the mall or anywhere with B.D. without being stopped for conversation with someone. It seemed that he knew almost everyone in the Quad-Cities area. He was a past member of the Lions Club and Colbert County Cattleman's Association. His faithful and tireless support extended also to his church for more than 50 years as a member of Highland Park Church of Christ. The family wishes to thank friends, neighbors and the staff at Morningside Assisted Living Facility and Hospice of North Alabama for their loving and compassionate care, with special thanks to Lyn, Loretta and Kelly Jo. B.D. left a legacy of love, hope, joy, friendship and lots of hugs. His positive spirit will live in the hearts of everyone who was fortunate enough to have known him. For this remarkable man and his amazing life, we are forever grateful. He will be deeply missed. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. His funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel, with John McMath and Mike Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Highland Park Church in support of Bangladesh Missions or a charity of your choice. Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, is directing.
