Campbell (Cam) Clarence Burris was born in Blanco, Texas 22 Dec, 1881. His mother was Phoebe Campbell Burris and his father, Bazzel R. Burris, who had died two months before Campbell was born.

He was raised in Blanco by his mother and his Campbell grandparents. His ancestors had been in Texas for many years, arriving before Texas had become a state. Growing up without a father was difficult, but his grandfather was there to help raise him. Cam was very musically inclined and was a great fiddle player.

Growing up on a ranch, he also learned all the things a young man needed to know to survive country life. He met Edith Harper, whose grandparents had founded the nearby town of Harper, Texas. Cam and Edith were married in December 1906 and they made their home first in Harper, Texas where their daughter Fern and son Herman were born. They moved on to Bandera, Texas, where they had four more children, Clarence, Jewell, Alleen, and Kathleen. Cam did some farming and ranching and owned a saddle shop. He also did some teamster work, hauling goods to San Antonio. Edith ran a millinery shop

In the late 1920's, the family moved to San Antonio, where Cam did carpentry work. After the children left home, Cam and Edith bought a large two-story house on Woodlawn Ave in San Antonio and ran a boarding house. He continued playing his fiddle and delighted in gathering for musical get-togethers with his family. In his later years, Cam was ill and was confined to a hospital in Kerrville, Texas, where he died on 6 February, 1964.
