"Dr. Jonathan A.C. Hower, for many years a prominent druggist of Martinsburg, died at his home there on Tuesday, aged 84 years. He was a native of Clearspring, and was graduated from the Baltimore Medical College in 1852 and practiced his profession in Natchez, Miss. [actually, according to the 1870, lived in Franklin Parish, La. with his brother's family]. For 12 years before removing to Martinsburg in 1874. He was a deputy sheriff for several years and later engaged in the drug business which he followed for 33 years, until two years ago, when he retired from active business. He was a Mason of high rank. He is survived by these nieces: Mrs. Mary Rhodes, Williamsport; Mrs. Virginia Wolf and Miss Lydia Pike, the latter making their home with their uncle."
