Mrs. L. Nordenstrom Killed in Collision

A very sad accident occurred at St. Paul last Friday evening when Mrs. Lawrence Nordenstrom of White Bear Lake, a daughter-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Edw. G. Nordenstrom of Ogilvie, was instantly killed in a collision with another car at the intersection of Highway 161 and Burns avenue. Mr. Nordenstrom, who was driving, was quite seriously injured, but their two children, John, 4, and Stephen, 2, who occupied the rear seat of the car, escaped serious injury. Stephen was cut and bruised and John suffered minor bruises.

Mrs. Edna Smith of St. Paul, driver of the other car, suffered cuts and bruises and a severe hip injury. Her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Warren Smith, also of St. Paul, was cut on the face. The latter's 9-year-old son sustained a fractured pelvis and her 3-year-old daughter, a severe back injury.

The injured were taken to Ancker hospital. Mr. Nordenstrom , who suffered head cuts, was released from the hospital late Saturday. Besides his other injuries, he suffered greatly from shock. The Nordenstrom children are being cared for at the Alden Nordenstrom home in St. Paul Park.

When the accident occurred, the Nordenstrom car was traveling north on Hwy 161, and the Smith car east. According to our information, Mrs. Smith drove through the stop sign on Burns avenue into the four-lane highway and was directly into the path of the Nordenstrom car. Mr. Nordenstrom was unable to avoid striking the Smith car, as traffic was too heavy to permit turning.

Mrs. Nordenstrom was 22 years of age and besides her husband and the two children is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Olson of Minneapolis, four sisters and one brother. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. from the Gethsemane Lutheran church. Interment was in Crystal Lake cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Nordenstrom lived at Ogilvie for about a year after their marriage, and since has visited at Ogilvie with her husband and children on numerous occasions. Local friends will join us in extending sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
