OBITUARY Iron River Reporter Feb 10 1982 “Obituaries: Carl Mangles”
RHINELANDER-Carl C. Mangles, 58, a former resident of Iron River, died at his home here on Monday, Feb. 1 after a brief illness.
He was born April 30, 1923 in Laona, Wis. and came to Iron River as a young child. He attended the Iron River schools and the University of Wisconsin. In 1941 he entered the U.S. Air Force and served as a tail gunner in the South Pacific. He returned to live in Iron River and then moved to Rhinelander in 1980.
Mr. Mangles was a member of American Legion Reino Post No. 21 of Stambaugh and the Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. George (Carol) Atanasoff of Stambaugh and Mrs. Howard (Joyce) Woods of Lake Geneva, Wis. He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Services were held Thursday, Feb. 4 at Duvall-Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron River. Lt. Steve Atanasoff, U.S. Marine Corps, nephew of the deceased, officiated.
Honorary pallbearers were Daniel Donati and Ellis Dobson. Active pallbearers were Lt. Steve Atanasoff, Sgt. Carl Atanasoff, Mike Woods and Robert, James and Bruce Mangles.
American Legion Reino Post No. 21 of Stambaugh conducted military rites at the funeral home.
Burial was in Resthaven Cemetery in Iron River.
