D. Ella (Fleischer) Matthes, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away on August 29, 2002.
Ella was born July 26, 1903, in Halsbrucke, Saxony, Germany, to Robert and Marie (Roessler) Flei-scher. She married Otto Kurt Matthes, May 26, 1923, in Freiberg, Germany. Their marriage was later solemnized on Sept 9, 1935, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple by President Heber J. Grant. Kurt and Ella spent 63 years together.
Ella immigrated to the United States in 1928. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints all of her adult life. She was well known for her friendly smile, and sunny outlook on life. She had many friends who will miss her. Her husband, one daughter, and her son preceded her in death. She was very fond of her extended family.
She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Helen Jensen, and Dorothy's husband Reginald L. Jensen of San Jose, CA; brother Erhard Fleischer in Salt Lake City and her sister, Hilde Schubert in Germany. She had eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be Tues. Sept 3, 2002 at the Parleys Second Ward, LDS ward building, 1879 East Parleys Canyon Boulevard. There will be a viewing on Mon. Sept 2, 2002 at Evans and Early Mortuary, 574 East 100 South, from 6-8 p.m. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, following the funeral services. Funeral Directors: Evans and Early Mortuary.
