LORAIN — Desmond Lee Vaughn, 53 years of age and a resident of Lorain, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2009, at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria following a sudden illness.

He was born May 20, 1955, in Somerset, Kentucky. Desmond had made his home in Lorain County for the last 49 years.

He was a member of the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Amherst. Desmond attended the Oberlin Murray Ridge Workshop. He loved watching the "Dukes of Hazzard" and the Three Stooges TV shows, country gospel music and loved having his picture taken. His hobbies included playing Mario Brothers, coloring and looking through the J.C. Penney's Catalog.

Survivors include his brothers and their wives David and Joy Vaughn of South Amherst, Dewayne and Tracey Vaughn of Columbus, Danny and Olga Vaughn of Avon, Indiana; his sisters and their husbands Betty and Richard Angelo of Berlin Heights, Ohio, Beverly Thomas of Lexington, Kentucky, Catherine Vaughn Bennett of Lorain, Tammie and Lemuel Hambrick of Oberlin, Lisa and Brad DeBerry of Amherst and Kimberly Vaughn of Oberlin; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and many aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his parents Arvis and Alta Vaughn (nee: Randolph); his brother Dennis Vaughn and his sister Virginia Lee Vaughn.

Friends may call Friday, February 6, 2009, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 7, 2009, at 1 p.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Earl Conner, pastor of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church and Rev. Harold Taylor, will co-officiate. Burial will be in Camden Cemetery, Camden Township.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to his memory to the family.
