Jacob was the son of David and Anna Bower. Jacob married Margaret "Maggie" French on February 21, 1888. Jacob and his owned and operated a farm near the Kedron area. They had three children: Chattie, who died in infancy, Merritt Bower and Estella Bower, who married Thomas Woodard.
