Actor, Singer. He was a handsome, rather stocky, but muscular actor who was best known for playing the character roles of dancers, minstrel show performers, dudes, and sailors, usually in comedy films, musical films, action films, and dramatic films. He will be best remembered for playing the role of 'Willie Gump' in the comedy film drama, "South Sea Rose" (1929). The film which was directed by Allan Dwan, which was written for the screen by Elliott Lester and Sonya Levien, and was based on the play, "La Gringa," by Tom Cushing, also starred Lenore Ulric, Charles Bickford, and Kenneth MacKenna. He was born one of five children as Tommasso Patricola in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Louis Luigi Patricola (1859-1923), and Cattarina Katherine D'Angelo Patricola (1861- ), on January 22, 1891. He also had a half-sibling named Hilda Maud Patricola (1909-2010). He was educated locally and served his country during World War I. He began his acting career as a dancer, vaudevillian, and as an actor on the stage. He appeared with Keith-Orpheum Circuit and on Broadway in New York City, New York, in several stage productions of such plays as, "George White's Scandals" [1923] (June 18, 1923, to November 10, 1923), "George White's Scandals" [1924] (June 30, 1924, to December 13, 1924), "George White's Scandals [1925] (June 22, 1925, to November 14, 1925), "George White's Scandals" [1926] (June 14, 1926, to June 18, 1927), "George White's Scandals" [1928] (July 02, 1928, to January 19, 1929), "George White's Music Hall Varieties" [1932] (January 02, 1933, to January 21, 1933), and as 'Kid Hogan' in "Hold Your Horses" (September 25, 1933, to December 09, 1933). During his time on the Broadway stage in New York City, New York, he worked with the likes of actress, dancer, and singer Ann Pennington (1893-1971). During this time, he made the transition to appearing in films. He made his actual film debut playing 'Hannibal' in the film, "Words And Music" (1929). The film which was directed by James Tinling, which was written for the screen by Frederick Hazlitt Brennan, Jack McEdwards, and Andrew Bennison, and which also starred Lois Moran, David Percy, Helen Twelvetrees, Frank Albertson, and Elizabeth Patterson, tells the story of Phil and Pete who compete for Mary's love and also in a contest for best song written by a college student. He was married twice, first to his partner and fellow performer Ruby Myers Patricola (1894-1920), in Silver Bow, Montana, from May 29, 1917, until her death on February 14, 1920, and secondly to Dorothy Daly Cully Patricola (1916-1981), in New York City, New York, from June 1, 1938, until his death on January 1, 1950. He had no children. His sister Isabella Patricola (1885-1965), was a famous violinist.
