He was born Sept. 19, 1923, in Oconto, to the late William and Wilhelmina (Draeger) Hayes.
On Nov. 18, 1946, Harvey married Florence McFadden in Chicago.
He served his country valiantly in the United States Army during World War II "The Invasion of Normandy."
He owned and operated Hayes Trucking starting in Oconto and concluded his operation in California.
Harvey loved spending winters in Puerta Vallarta, Mexico. He also enjoyed camping, and was an accomplished mechanic who loved working on trucks.
Survivors include his wife Florence; five children, Ron (Kathy) Hayes, Oconto; Beverly (Terris) Umentum, Oconto Falls; Kathleen Noren, San Diego Calif.; Ken Hayes, Oconto; Debi (Michael) Jackson Sr., Eden Prairie Minn.; 15 grandchildren Lori, Ronnie, Sara, Michael, Randy, Scott, David, Tina, Steve, Amber, Riley, Michael Jr., Marci, Mason, and Tim; many great-grandchildren; one brother, James (Lola) Hayes, Cantril, Iowa; one sister Violet (Wilfred "Toby") Mineau, Green Bay; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Hayes, Burlington, Kan.; and Ann Hayes, Holmbury, Penn.
He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Melissa Noren, and Patrick Umentum; seven brothers and sisters, Margaret Jacquart, Alvin Hayes, Willard Hayes, Helen Koranda, Robert Hayes, Ralph Hayes, and Gladys Hayes.
