I am, Ruby Annette Douglas Byers Lee, 3rd great granddaughter of John and Nancy Denman Walden Douglass.

We have been told that John was born in N.C.; but have no records to verify the names of his parents nor grandparents.

The family came from Scotland and shortly before John's birth his father returned there to conduct some business and died there before John's birth.

His mother died shortly after his birth.
He was raised by his grandparents.

He served in the Revolutionary War, for 2 yrs., at age 12 yrs. as a drummer boy.

We have no record of his first wife's name; but records do confirm one child from this union.
John Douglass, Jr.

John's second marriage was to Nancy.Their children were:
Ransom Douglass b. 1805 in Ga.
Jepthah Douglass b. 1808
Joel Douglass b. 1810
Twin sons Elisha and Elijah Douglass b. 1814
Elijah d. 1817 at age 4 yrs.

Three of their sons married three of Calvin Elijah and Mary "Polly" Rule Smith's daughters.
