Lawrence H. Andrew was born on October 17, 1871 in Scioto, Ross Co, Ohio. His father Jacob Andre b1836 was 35 and his mother Susan Haynes was only 24. He was 0ne of four brothers. His Grandparents were Philip Andre b1813 and Anna Maria Steffan Andre b1811, both immigrants from Lampertheim, Hessen, Germany. They came over to America in 1852. (Anna Maria 'Mary Andre' was a sister to this writers g/grandfather Adam Stephan b1813 in Hessen also) Lawrence's father passed away in 1874 and his mother re-married to a Peter Steffan b1847. He was living with this step-father & his mother in 1880 along with his brothers and half-siblings. The Andre Boys took the last name of Andrew instead of Andre (Originally Andrea in Germany)
What is interesting about this family is that his half-siblings were also his cousins because they both have a common ancestor in Johann Philip Stephan of 1681. Johann is this writers 6X G/grandfather. see Mem# 115861290 (these two families are descended from his two sons b1704 and 1708)

Lawrence lost his father, a native of Germany, at the age of two, and his mother married his father's relative Peter Steffan. They moved to Columbus in the 1890s and brought Lawrence, who learned to be a baker, a trade he carried on for many years. He married Clara, in 1901, and they lived on Grant Avenue. They had no children, and were divorced about 1911. He married secondly Bessie Belle Coogle, on Christmas Eve, 1912. He took up employment with Columbus Coated Fabrics as a foreman, and worked for the company the rest of his life. By the late twenties Lawrence was single again. He lived at 797 1/2 Summit Street until his last days, which were spent at Hunter Rest Home on Bryden Road.

Lawrence passed away on August 8, 1953 in Columbus, Franklin Co, Ohio at the age of 81. He is buried in this cemetery. Interestingly the house where he was living in 1950 was the same home occupied by a related Steffan family in 1915 - 1920. (Written by a Stephan grandson) His sister-in-law Laura Knight Andrew is buried in this cemetery also - see #48125109
