Lance Corporal
3rd Battalion
The Yorkshire Regiment
British Army

He was deployed with the 1 Coldstream Guards Battle Group as part of the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.

He and Cpl Liam Riley were killed while on foot patrol as a result of two improvised explosive device (IED) explosions near Malgir, which lies between Babaji and Gereshk, in central Helmand province.

Aged 27, from Glocar, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. LCpl Shaw enlisted in 2000 and joined the Duke of Wellington's Regiment. In 2004 he was promoted and later deployed with 3 YORKS to Afghanistan. He was described as calm and composed under pressure, a totally selfless, excellent soldier. Friends remembered "Shawy" or "Shozza" as the best of fun with a great sense of humour.

LCpl Shaw is survived by his parents, Russ and Karen, along with other relatives and many friends. His family said he was "proud to be a member of the British Army like his father before him. Graham enjoyed life to the full, running everywhere. He was very active and took part in many different sports from sky diving last summer to skiing with the Army in Canada and even surfing on the south coast - he was up for anything."

Funeral with full military honours was held on February 22, 2010 at St John's Church, Golcar.
