J.T. (initials only) Casey was named for his paternal and maternal grandfathers, John Turner Casey, and John Thomas Shoptaw, respectively. Once as a lad, upon being unmercifully harried by his grade school teacher regarding his 'full' name, he blurted out in frustration, "I'm J.T. 'Goldbug' Casey, and that's it!" He served with the U.S. Navy (USNR) in the Pacific Theater during WWII, piloting the Consolidated PBY Catalina aircraft. Ensign J.T. Casey was designated Naval Aviator #7337 in 1941. He ended his military service on 16 July 1947. J.T. married Miss Sylvia Marie Bond (1921-1984) on 12 December 1944. They had two children: John Thomas Casey, born in 1945, and Patricia Dean Casey, born in 1948. He died unexpectedly of a heart attack during a visit to his parents' Arkansas home. My father, Raymond L. Casey , and J.T. were first cousins, and both were great-grandsons of Capt. C.C. Casey.
