James R. Goff, 70, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2010 in a local medical center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 3rd at Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy 277 South, with Rev. Price Mathieson officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.

James was born March 2, 1939 (Texas Independence Day) to James A. Goff and Grace Monk Goff in Angelina County, Texas. He moved to West Texas, Colorado City, Texas, in 1951. He attended school in Colorado City and graduated from AISD in Abilene, Texas. James married Dorothy L. Sanders in 1957 in Colorado City and they moved to Abilene where he worked in the oil field while going to college. He graduated from Tri-College of Abilene and American Commercial College of Abilene. He worked for Tippett and Gee Consulting Firm in Mechanical, Structural and Civil design for major electric power plants for 36 years. He later taught drafting at American Commercial College and was C.E.O. of Goff Petroleum, Inc. and had a welding business. He served his obligation in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge. He was a Master Mason at Lodge 559, Abilene, member of the National Institute for Engineer Technologies, past vice president and membership chairman for Cooper High School Booster Club, a member of the Texas Sheriff's Association, State Teachers Retirement System, Petroleum Club, Abilene Country Club, and the President of the Elm Creek Citizens Association (ECCA) Volunteer Fire Department.

Jim loved the Texas Longhorns and would stand when they played the Texas fight song and the Texas National Anthem. He loved sports and lettered in football, basketball and track. He coached the Little and Pony League boys for Dixie League of Abilene and also coached the Tri-Hi-Y girls at Cooper High School.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, his father, mother and two sisters. Dorothy passed away in 1993 after 36 years of marriage. Jim met Marianne Brown in 1994 and they have been dancing in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma ever since.

Survivors include his son, James N. Goff and his wife, Staci of Richardson, TX, daughter Janet D. Goff Barragan and husband, William of Wylie, TX, five grandchildren, Justin K. Goff, Brady A. Goff, Jordan L. Goff, Brandon J. Barragan, and David W. Barragan, and uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces.
