Gwen met Clyde Dooms, her future husband, at a USO dance in Astoria and they were married in February 1944 in Knappa while Clyde was still serving in the US Navy. Their first child, Allen, born in July 1945, lived just 2 hours and died from heart and lung complications. When WWII was over, Clyde was honorably discharged, and the couple moved to Centralia, WA where they purchased a home on Oakview Ave, living there through the births of 3 more children, Michael, Bernita, and Kathleen. In 1959, they bought a farm in Adna, and at about the same time, Gwen was diagnosed with leukemia and traveled to Olympia for weekly radiation treatments. In April 1963, Gwen succumbed to complications from leukemia, leaving 3 teenage children and a husband. Gwen was an accomplished homemaker, beautician, singer and piano player and possessed a cheerful outlook on life. She left many friends and family members who never forgot her.
