Eugene B. Lewis, 89, of 201 E. 38th St., died Saturday of heart failure in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Elsmere.

Mr. Lewis retired in 1960 after 48 years as a gang foreman at the Wilmington Shops of the Pennsylvania Railroad. After retiring he and his wife completed more than 100,000 miles of traveling by trailer, visiting the entire United States, eastern and western Canada, Nova Scotia and Mexico.

He was a World War I Navy Veteran and a member of the Junior Order of American Mechanics, the Delaware Lodge 1 International Order of Odd Fellows, the Oriental Lodge 27 AF & AM where he held various offices, St. John's Commandery 1, Knights Templar and was a past commander of the Pugh-Lenderman-Chalfonte Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2907.

His wife, Bernie C., died in 1984. He is survived by two daughters, Mary E. Lowe of East Greenwich, R.I., and Jean B. Watters of Talleyville; six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Beeson Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Philadelphia Pike, where friends may call Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. The Oriental lodge will conduct services at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
