William Stockdale Laid To Final Rest

William Stockdale, 4216, Colonial Ave., died Friday, December 3rd at the age of 83 years.

Born in Blairsville, Pa., June 5th, 1837, he moved to Ohio in 1842 and from there to Iowa ten years later. From there he went to Pikes Peak, Colorado in 1859. Being in the south at the beginning of the Civil War he server in the Confederate Army throughout the conflict, afterward returning to Iowa.

In 1901 he went to Salt Lake City, from there coming to East San Diego in 1912. He came from a large family of five boys and three girls all of whom had previously passed away, with the exception of one sister, Mrs. Henry Bock, who was at his bedside at the last.

Funeral services were held Monday, Decenber 6, at Bradley & Woolman's chapel, cremation at Greenwood cemetery. The Rev. J. C. Dible officiating.

Mr. Stockdale was a man of most noble character and alway insisted on paving his way in the world never allowing anyone to obligate him in the least way. He was never married, living a life of a batchelor. He was a most esteemable gentleman and his loss will be keenly felt by all who were acquainted with him.
