John Hiram Mullins married Sallie Lou Berry on November 5, 1878 in Monroe County, Georgia. He was the son of Spencer Mullins and the grandson of Rev. John Mullins. She was the daughter of William and Ann Rebecca (Lemmon) Berry.Sally and John had six children before she died at the age of 29 in 1892. According to an old family story provided by a great grandson of Sally's, she had been very ill for a time before her death. Knowing that it would be hard for John to raise the children on his own in the event that she passed away, she wanted him to marry her close friend, Decie Goddard. After Sally died, John did this and he and Decie would have three more children. Sally and John Mullins are buried beside each other at Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Lamar County. Decie is buried at the Crawley Family Cemetery in Orchard Hill, Lamar County, Georgia.
