DEATH OF GUY STOCKDALE

It Was A Distinct Shock to the Community

This Community was greatly shocked about noon, Saturday, December, 7th, to learn of the death of Guy Stockdale, few knowing that he was seriously ill. He had been feeling unwell for several days but his wife being sick he felt he must care for her, and if he went to bed, as some of his friends advised him to do, the burden would fall to heavily on his mother to care for both of them.

On Tuesday evening he went to bed and continued to grow wores, and by Thursday double pneumonia had developed. A nurse was secured and all that loving hands and medical skill could do was done, but to no avail and death came Saturday.

Guy Stoskdale was the second child of four children, born to John and Mary Ella (Stouffer) Stockdale, the others dying in infancy. He was born December 25, 1881, at Walcott, Iowa, being at the time of his death 37 years of age. His early life was spent at Walcott, where he received a high school education, afterward attended state college at Ames. He came to Lake Park with his parents in 1910 and has been a resident here ever since.

He spent a large part of his time previous to his father's death in looking after his real estate interests, and since that event some three years ago, has assumed the responsibility of the care and companionship of his mother. Feburary 28, 1917, he was united at San Antonio, Texas to Miss Minna Huffmeier. Since his marriage they have continued to reside with his mother and it is here in the home circle that he will be most sorely missed, being always thoughtful of each other's welfare, but being of a jovial and gentle disposition, with a cheerful hearty greating for all, he was a general favorite and won a host of friends everywhere who will greatly miss him. Besides his wife and mother, he leaves to mourn a large number of relatives, as well as a large circle of friends and aquaintances.

After a brief funeral service conducted at the home on Tuesday afternoon by Rev. Griffith of the M. E. Church, the remains were sent to Walcott, Iowa, where he will be interred beside those of his father, brothers and sister. His mother, Mrs. Ella Stockdale, and uncle, John Stockdale of Walcott, a cousin Ed Stockdale of Estherville, and a niece, Mrs. Mabel Forsythe, accompanied the remains there for burial.

The sympathy of the community goes out to the bereaved relatives in their affliction.
