BERT BOAKES

Bert Boakes, 96, of 745 N. Bowery Ave., Gladwin, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, in the Tolfree Hospital, West Branch, following a long illness.

Born in Bay City on Jan. 22, 1888, he had spent most of his life in Gladwin County. Mr. Boakes was employed by the Gladwin County Road Commission.

He was married to the former Sadie Brown and she preceded him in death.

Surviving are one son, Delbert of Gladwin; 2 sisters, Rose Phillips of Midland and Marie Murphy of Lake; 8 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

Rites were held Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Sission-Mathews Funeral Home. The Rev. Charles Booth officiated and burial was in the Butman Township Cemetery. Gladwin County Record dated 11-7/1984
