She is also survived by a sister, Maxine Shaver, a brother-in-law, Sam Lowdermilk, and many nieces and nephews and their families.

Nelda and George Lowdermilk were married on March 25, 1943 in San Diego, California and lived there while George was in the Navy. After the war, they lived in Louisiana, until their move to Houston, Texas in 1946. Nelda was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend and lived a full and rewarding life. She was kind, generous and loving to all who knew her and was always there when someone needed her. Nelda was fortunate enough to be able to stay at home and raise her family. In addition to providing a loving home to her family, she enjoyed many activities during her lifetime. She was well read and learned in many subjects which helped her teach her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren about life and family. MawMaw, as she was lovingly called by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, loved them all dearly, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Nelda was active in the American Legion Women's Auxiliary and United Methodist Women. She was a dedicated member of Ludtke Methodist Church in Houston, Texas before moving to Songwood and becoming a Charter Member of Good Shepherd Methodist Church, Houston, Texas, where she was active in all areas before the dissolution of the church and her move to Katy, Texas in 2006. She loved to play cards and enjoyed playing and spending time with her friends on a weekly basis. Nelda also loved to travel and traveled all over the United States (including Alaska and Hawaii) and Canada. She was especially fond of going to Las Vegas and Coushatta and went there on many, many occasions. In the 25 or so years before her illness in 2007, she went on numerous cruises and traveled to Israel, Spain, France, Italy, China, Japan, Africa, Mexico, Panama and the Bahamas.

The Lowdermilk family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Loretta Scott, who was Nelda's loyal and dedicated caregiver for over 4 ½ years and Laura Leal, who was her evening and weekend caregiver for over a year, both of whom will always be dear to our hearts for their loving care and devotion to Mother. We would also like to express a special thanks to her physician, Dr. Clive Fields, who treated her for many years, and other caregivers from Evercare Hospice and Never Alone Staffing.
