The complete obituary can be found in the 9-24-1942 Bruning Banner:

William Martin Bruning, son of Frederick Bruning and his wife, Helena, was born December 18th, 1870, in McLean County, Illinois, and was received into the household of God by infant baptism.

He came to Nebraska in February, 1893 and on March 7th, in the same year, he entered into holy wedlock with Minnie Marie Ita. They made their home on a farm southwest of Bruning and resided there up to a year ago when they decided to retire from active farming and moved into the town of Bruning.

Mr. Bruning's health had been poorly for some years, yet his demise came unexpectedly. It pleased the Lord to call him from this earth suddenly on September 17, 1942 at his home, after having been up and around all that day, as usual.

He attained the age of 71 years, 8 months and 29 days. His demise is mourned by his wife, who shared his joys and sorrows for almost fifty years, by his sons, Frederick M., Walter G., and Martin, all of Bruning; his daughters, Mrs. Helen Schulte of Ashland, Nebr., Mrs. Olga Campbell of Minatare, Nebr., Mrs. Rhoda Hulse of Bruning, Mrs. Mabel West of York, Nebr., Miss Ada of Bruning and Miss Norma of Los Angeles, Calif.; his sister, Mrs. W. R. Wessel of Manson, Iowa.

One daughter, Miss Ruth, preceded the father in the realms of eternity.

Funeral services were held at the home and at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Interment was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
