Jack Gilbert. No service is planned for Jack Edward Gilbert Sr., 81, of Chico, who died Saturday, May 6, 1995, at a local care center.
He was born May 14, 1913, in Oroville to Harry and Genevieve Gilbert. He attended Oroville schools and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1935. While at Berkeley he was a pitcher for the baseball team.
After graduation he worked for DC&H wholesale hardware in San Francisco. From 1947-1950 Gilbert worked as a salesperson for the company in Chico.
Gilbert then worked for Christian and Johnson until 1962.
In 1964 he returned to DC&H and left again in 1967 to work for Central Garden Supply. He retired in 1981.
Gilbert was a scoutmaster for Troop No. 71, and served with the Salvation Army from 1953-1958.
He was a member of Chico Leland Stanford Lodge No. 11 F&AM since 1953, and an 18-year member of the Chico Elks Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Relda of Chico and two sons.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
Private inurnment will be held at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo, and Bidwell Chapel is handling arrangements.
