Walter Hilton Chase, II was born in West Virginia in 1929. He had an older sister Dorothy and a younger brother James "Jim". His father Walter Hilton Chase, I. died at a young age when Walter Hilton Chase, II was about 10 years old.

He graduated high school roughly in 1947. He married Betty Mae Sansom of Hewitt, West Virginia on September 3, 1948. Walter was drafted into the Marine Corps. The day he was drafted he signed up for the Army. He later went to infantry school at Ft. Benning, Georgia. Based on his aptitude and service he went into OCS (Officer Candidate School). He became a 2nd Lt.
Walter's military record was honarable and was a night jungle fighter instructor.

After his service, he used the GI Bill to attend West Virginia Tech in Charleston, West Virginia. He studied Mechanical Engineering and graduated in 1958. During his college career he met Rufus Lee Cook. Mr. Cook was an Electrical Engineering student. They became very good friends during this era. Both Walter's wife Betty and Rufus's wife Myrtle were close friends.

After graduation Walter took an engineering job at Allis Chalmers in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. During the 1960's Walter would start a family of three sons. Later in 1970, he transferred to Gadsden, Alabama to raise his family in a better environment. The family was thriving and quite happy being in Alabama. By 1973 Walter left Allis Chalmers and took a position with John Blue in Huntsville, Alabama. His children ranged in age from 7-14 years old.

Being in Alabama, it allowed the friendship with Mr. & Mrs. Cook to continue. The Cook's lived in Panama City, Florida, about a 7 hour drive. During the summers for over half a decade the Chase family would go on vacation to Florida and see the Cook's. The Cook's had 4 children, 1 son, and three daughters.

In the mid 1970's, Walter took a management position at a steel company in Pennsylvania. This lasted about 3 years and the family returned to the south-east, to Georgia.
The summer vacations continued to Florida to see the Cook's and the children grew up.

In 1989 Walter was diagnosed with lung cancer and survived. In late 1992 he was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and later in late 1993, bone cancer was diagnosed.
Walter passed in May of 1994 at his home with his beloved wife of over 45 years Betty next to his side.

The relationship that started in the mid 1950's with Rufus & Myrtle Cook continues to this day as the youngest son of Walter Chase married the youngest daughter of Rufus Cook in 1992. Together this joining of families has produced two wonderful sons.

The legacy of Walter Hilton Chase, II is of a great man and father, loving husband and provider. His decisions over 50 years ago continues to impact us today.

We miss you.
