JOSEPH PETER MUDD, 96, of 162 Mudd Lane in Springfield, died at 6 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2005 at Springfield Nursing & Rehab in Springfield. He was born Nov. 5, 1908, was a Washington County native, a retired farmer, attended the University of Kentucky for three years, was a former member of the Kentucky National Guard and was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church. Preceding him in death were a granddaughter, Julie Marie Mudd on Oct. 13, 1995; his parents, Richard Skidmore and Carro Montgomery Mudd; four brothers, Christopher "Tip" Mudd, Richard Mudd, Sam D. Mudd and Charles Mudd. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Wheatley Mudd of Springfield; two sons, Joe Maurice Mudd and Jerry Mudd, both of Springfield; one daughter, Susan Marilyn Griffin of Sellersburg, Ind.; one sister, Theresa Filiatreau of Louisville; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 21 at St. Rose Catholic Church in Springfield with Rev. Stephen Hayes, O.P., Rev. James Murray and Rev. Culpepper Elliott officiating. Burial was in St. Rose Cemetery. Active pallbearers were grandchildren: Beth Griffin, Lynn Dempster, Stephanie Carrico, Marcy Mudd, Jerry Mudd Jr. and Jennifer Mudd. Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield was in charge of the arrangements.
