Agnes C. Zgoda, age 95, of Westbrook, MN, formerly of Ivanhoe, MN, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Westbrook, MN.

Funeral Mass was held at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ivanhoe with Father Paul Schumacher as the Celebrant. Inturnment was in St. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery at a later date.

Agnes Skorczewski was born to Frank & Anna (Shikoski) Skorczewski on May 25, 1914 in Royal Township, Lincoln County, MN.

She was baptized in the Catholic faith and was a member of the Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ivanhoe. She attended District 13 School until the 8th grade. She worked various nanny jobs in Minneapolis, Wisconsin and Ivanhoe.

On December 29, 1940, she married Joseph Zgoda. To this marriage four children were born. They farmed for many years and in 1961 they moved to Ivanhoe. During her lifetime in Ivanhoe, Agnes worked at the Eagle Café as a pastry chef and is still remembered to this day by her customers. She also worked at several other restaurants and was often found in the kitchen of the Senior Dining when it opened.

Agnes was a woman of many talents. She was active in her church and did volunteer work in the community. She had a love for gardening and flowers and her flowers were often times enjoyed by the church. While a guest in her home you shared many of her special baked treats. She loved to sew and her family and friends were often seen wearing her creations. Later in life she learned to crochet afghans, which she shared with her family. She also enjoyed needlework for which she won several blue ribbons at the nursing home fairs. One of her proudest accomplishments was her quilt which was a family project. Agnes filled her time reading, watching sports (Go Vikings), and soap operas, playing bingo and proudly playing trivia or find a word.

In 2004, Agnes reluctantly relinquished her independence and entered the Divine Providence Nursing Home in Ivanhoe. She transferred to the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Westbrook in 2005 to be closer to her family. While a resident at Good Samaritan, she made many friends, (was crowned Queen of the Home in 2006) and had as she called it her apartment where she greeted her family, staff and friends.

She is survived by her children, Bonnie (Donald) DeGidio of Stillwater, MN, Janice (George) Robertson of Buffalo, MN, and Judy (Dean) Lichty of Lake Shetak, MN; five grandchildren, Joe (Janet) DeGidio, Heather (Keith) Jalbert, Philip (Brandi) Robey, Nicole (Brian) Oustad, and Dan (Renee) Lichty; four great grandchildren, Jessica & Miranda Jalbert, Taelor Robey, and Caleb Lichty; two brothers, Jack & Benny Skorczewski and many nieces and nephews.
