Honea Path – Laura Lucille Gambrell Hammett, 83, of 12 Pinson Drive, widow of Norman Edward Hammett, Sr., died Friday, January 29, 2010, at Pine Shadows Retirement Manor in Sylvester, Ga.
Born on Feb. 7, 1926 in Belton, SC, she was a daughter of the late Joe Alexander and Nora Mae Smith Gambrell. She was a retired teacher's aide who was very active in genealogical & historical societies and also enjoyed gardening and was of the Methodist faith.
Mrs. Hammett is survived by three daughters; Janet H. Shiver (David) of Sylvester, Ga., Elaine H. Gifford (Bob) of Estill, SC and Sally Anne H. Gable (Robert) of Plum Branch, SC., one son; Norman E. Hammett, Jr. (Debbie) of Seneca SC, grandchildren; Laura S. Brown (Greer) of St. Simons Island, Ga., Will Shiver (Shelley) of Leesburg, Ga., Drew and Michael Hammett of Seneca SC, David Waters (Allison) of Ft. Richardson, AK, Perry & Jessie Gifford of Estill, SC, Samantha & Jordan Coker and Taylor Gable of Plum Branch, SC, great-grandchildren; Maidee & McKenzie Brown and Kemp Shiver, sisters; Lillian G. Jenkins and Lois G. Ellison of Honea Path, SC, brothers; Rufus Gambrell (Ella Mae) of Belton, SC, Aaron Gambrell (Robbie Ann) of Honea Path, Smythe (Buddy) Gambrell (Nona Gail) of Knoxville, TN and Larry Gambrell (Leslie) of Belton, SC.
In addition to her husband and parents Mrs. Hammett was preceded in death by her brother Jim Gambrell and sisters; Annie G. Ridgeway, Francis G. Motes, Ruth G. Chapman, Helen G. Ashley & Shirley G. Rutter.
Funeral services will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dale Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery.
