Edgar was known as Ed. He came to Illinois at the age of nine. He was a farmer. He was 5'6" tall, had a dark complexion, blue eyes, dark hair and a slender build. This is the description on his army records. He served with the 63rd Illinois in the Civil War. Edgar could play several musical instruments, including the drum, violin, organ, and piano. He also sang in church. Edgar was married to Catherine Tennery and they had ten children.

OBITUARY OF EDGAR SNEARLY
Edgar Snearly, son of George and Margaret Snearly, was born in Tuscarora County, Ohio, July 22, 1836 and departed this life June 14, 1918 age 81 years, 10 months and 22 days.
He moved with his parents to Illinois when about nine years of age, living near Round Prairie in Jasper County.
He was united in marriage to Lucinda C. Tennery on March 4, 1858, who survives him. Shortly after his marriage, he removed with his wife to his present homestead, where they have since resided.
To this union ten children were born, seven sons: George E, Dennis W. Charley O., Franklin A., Marion, Pearl E., and Ora C. and three daughters: Ettie M., Syntalia, and Margaret M.
He was preceded to the beyond by his daughter Ettie, three sons: Marion, Dennis, and George. Also by two brothers: Hiram and George, also three sisters: Louisa, Amanda and Amelia..
He enlisted in the service of this country in the Civil War in Co. G, 63rd Inf of Illinois Vol on Dec 1, 1861. Among some of the battles his regiment took part in were Missionary Ridge and Bentonville.. . . .division under Gen. John L. Logan joined General Sherman in his memorable march to the sea: and at the close of the war participated in that Grand Review at Washington. After an honorable service of 3 years, 7 months, and 12 days he was honorably discharged at Louisville, Ky. July 18, 1863.
Since that time he has taken an active part in the affairs of the community, serving Grandville township in various official capacities, dealing justice to those who came in contact with the law. His aim was always to help those who were needy. he rendered a service to the community in his dealing with the lawless element of the early days and will long be remembered by the older residents because of this work in behalf of the community.
He was converted in November 1913 and united with the United "Brethren Church at Yale and has endeavored to improve his late years in the work of the church until his death.
He leaves to mourn his departure his companion, four sons, two daughters, 33 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild . Also one sister, Mrs. Lee Smith of Casey, one half-sister Mrs. Oliva Bagwell of West Liberty, and three half-brothers: John, Walter and Charley Snearly who live near this place. Besides these he also leaves his beloved comrades of the Grand Army of whom three survive in this Post: W. A. Gifford, Lysander Cramper, and Elijah Walker: and a host of other relatives and friends by whom he will long be remembered.
The funeral services took place last Sunday afternoon at the U. B. Church in Yale conducted by Rev. G. L. Good who was assisted by Revs. S. A. Magilt of Willow Hill and Chalk Buliff of West York; ten G. A. R. veterans were in attendance and had their ritual services at the grave: interment in the Bethel Cemetery.
